Got some new beads in yesterday and I managed to make a couple of new necklaces.

I love these colourful beads, each bead has different depths of colour and then a swirl of gold.  No two are the same they're fab!

A very simple Green glass heart pendant on a brown waxed cotton thong.  And yes that is another one of those lovely swirly baroque beads.  I just love em!

Both of these are listed for sale in my Etsy shop (http://www.jewellerybyvik.etsy.com/) and on my website (http://www.originaljewellerybyviki.co.uk/)

Earring and pendant set I made on Tuesday.

Tuesday, 9 March 2010

I'm thinking that all the sunshine we've been having lately is working it's magic and giving me a bit of a much needed boost.  I've had such a mad day today, taking my little one and nephew to toddler group, visiting my sister-in-law and my mum, all on top of the usual stuff that needs to be done.  And then getting stuck into making a earring and necklace set for a customer.

Yesterday I also had time to make a couple of new items, little hair clips, in fact I like them so much I'm keeping them, hahahaha.  I'll never make a successful business like that.

I'll post photos of all my new bits when I get a min.

Another busy day today, I got up before everyone else so I had a bit of time to try out a new design that had been spinning around my head all night. Then when that was all done and photographed for my online shops on etsy and my own website, it was time to get stuck in with some house cleaning. This sunshine we've been having lately has really started the spring cleaning bug round here.

Well I've had a couple of hours to myself today, little one's spending some quality time with her nana. Nana's rule! So I've had a bit of time to work on a some new designs. I even managed to get a head band finished. I'm quite pleased with it, i've had the design in my head for a couple of weeks now and it was really nice to get the time to make it real. I think it could be used either as a prom or a wedding hair accessory. Any feedback would be great.

It is now available in my etsy shop.

Some photos of the set I made yesterday

Tuesday, 2 March 2010

Hiya I've managed to get back online.  It's been a bit of a funny day today which started with my daughter being ill, she's had a cold for a few days and her appettite has been poor, today she woke asking for toast and jam so I thought great, she's feeling better, I might be able to get stuck in with doing some work on building an inventory for my online stores.  No such luck, the toast and jam made a second appearance all over the couch.  I won't go on in case any one is eating while reading.  Needless to say my main job as mummy had to take priority today.

However, this afternoon she was feeling better and I did manage to get some work done.  I have made a necklace, bracelet and earring set using peacock and white freshwater pearls.  I am quite happy with the set and think it might make a nice gift for my mum's birthday next week.  The peacock coloured pearls have a beautiful irridesence to them.  The whole set is very delicate and pretty, I think it would actually work well as wedding jewellery.  I made the bracelet on four coils of memory wire, the necklace is a small pendant on a silver chain and the earrings echo the pendant on the necklace to make a small drop.  I will post some photos when I get a chance to take some.  I'm back on mummy duty just now so work is over for another day.

first post

Well here goes nothing, my first blog post.  I am completely new to the whole thing but thought I'd have a go anyway.  It's proving quite difficult so far as my two year old is currently insisting on sitting on my knee as I type.

I am a thirty something year old with a husband, two dogs and the aforementioned two year old.  I am a stay at home mummy and love my job so much.  I also make jewellery when I can fit it in around the busy mummy part of my life.  I have been making jewellery since I was in school, I had a break for a bit but got back into it a few years ago.  I have sold bits and bobs over the years to friends and family and a few years ago I even managed to set up a website which got me a couple of sales but nothing much.  I have been considering giving my jewellery a bit of a push for a while, just to see if I can make it into a bit more of a business, so I can hopefully make my hobby and work one.

I have a limited budget of approximately.......nothing (or thereabouts) in order to start this business, so I think it's going to be a long hard slog.  I'm not sure if it is actually possible to do but I'm going to give it a go.

I have been doing a bit of work on my website recently, to try to bring it up to date.  I have added a few more items to my gallery of work and added an online shop, with a few pieces that I have in stock.  My other bid for business has been to open an Etsy shop.  Etsy is a website where people can buy and sell handmade items.  A friend of mine pointed me to it as she had got a few bits for her wedding there.

So far I am a bit of an Etsy virgin but I have been reading everything I can to try to make the most out of my shop.  I have taken some new photographs of my jewellery and listed a few for sale.  No sales yet and there is alot of competition on the site from some very talented people but hopefully someone will spot my jewellery and like it.

I am currently working on some new designs so I can keep listing and keep a good variety of items in my store.

I also decided to have a go at writing a blog to keep track of my progress, I have absolutely no clue about it whatsoever but hey, it's worth a go.

Anyway that's me for now.  I'll hopefully be back to update with my next step soon.
